Dear Neighbors,

I am running for the Board of Supervisors because I can best represent our community and the citizens of the Second District.

I have the background and skills necessary to tackle the tough issues that face our community, and as your Supervisor I will do exactly that.

As a longtime resident of the Second District and the City of Santa Barbara, I have been a tireless proponent of neighborhood preservation for over 15 years.

I am a member of the City's Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance Steering Committee, and the City's General Plan Update Outreach Committee. My commitment to neighborhood protection is unequalled.

I have 18 years of experience working in County Government. I am the only candidate with County Government experience.

Working at the Public Health Department I was instrumental in providing environmental protections to communities throughout our County. In 1995, I initiated the first Oceanwater Sampling Program, which later led to the creation of Project Clean Water - - probably the most significant environmental movement since the 1969 Oil Spill. I also spearheaded the effort to bring beneficial improvements to the County's Septic System Program, and had a direct impact on improving the environmental quality of our creeks and beaches.

Since 1998, I have been working to protect our community from natural and man-made disasters as an Emergency Planner with the County Fire Department / Office of Emergency Services.

I work with school districts, senior citizen facilities, hospitals, and animal welfare agencies in an effort to help folks from all walks of life become better prepared to respond to disasters that may strike our community at any time.

I manage the County's Homeland Security Program and chair the local Terrorism Working Group. My efforts have brought nearly $4,000,000 in Federal grant funding to our County, and have helped to better equip law enforcement, fire and public health agencies throughout the County.

My dedication to the citizens of the Second District is proven.

~      I will protect our precious open space…I don't want to lose one more square foot of agricultural land to development.

~      I will fight State housing mandates, and will work to re-gain local control over our planning process.

~      Politics will not drive my agenda. I will maintain a non-partisan approach to every decision I make.

~      I will ensure that our public safety agencies are well staffed and well supported.

~      I will continually strive to make county government serve you.
