Guzzardi the right man for the job

February 17, 2006 7:45 AM

Wednesday night at the meeting of the Goleta Valley Visioning Committee, a few new faces could be seen in the audience. All four current candidates for the seat of 2nd District supervisor were present. This is three more than showed up for any of the previous meetings.

In other words, Joe Guzzardi is the only candidate that's been attending these meetings. He's been continually having a dialogue with residents that have been struggling to protect Noleta from overbuilding. In fact, as a citizen, he has been extremely active in neighborhood preservation and realistic planning for years. Not one of the other candidates can truthfully say that. Not one.

The rest are following Joe's lead and playing catch-up. Whose lead will they follow if one of them gets into office? They want the job, and are said to be gathering the moneys necessary to put on a good campaign. Soon, 2nd District residents will be barraged with phone calls, glossy brochures and lawn signs. Candidates will be trying to reach you and sell themselves as your best representative.

But take a tip from inside the action. Joe is already working for us. He's not financially beholden to special interests, and everyone who meets him is impressed with his knowledge and ideals for the future of the South Coast. Furthermore, he's been working amongst the county government for 18 years.

Clearly, Joe Guzzardi is the most qualified candidate on all counts. Second District citizens are lucky to have him on the ballot. Now it's up to us to elect him into office. To learn more about Joe, readers can visit his Web site at www.joeguzzardi.org
